Doris Duke, who borrowed the name of a US tobacco millionairess for her stage-name, fittingly set the charts alight with her 1970 crossover R&B/pop hit 'To The Other Woman' on Canyon Records. Her LPs "I'm a Loser"(1970) and "A Legend in Her Own Time" (1971- Mankind Records) brought critical acclaim and 'soul diva' status, particularly among UK fans, and during a 1974 trip to England, Doris signed with Contempo Records, owned by Blues & Soul magazine editor John Abbey.
The resultant LP of songs chosen by Doris and John proved that quality soul music could be produced in a London studio, and she delivers a stunning performance in a range of styles.
This album has become a collector's item over the years, and is presented here by Shout Records for the first time in CD format.
